Newsletter

  • Room 6 Newsletter Term 4.

Dear Parents/Caregivers and Students,

Welcome back! I would like to welcome Miss. Mareta Pelenato to our Room. Miss Pelenato is a first year student teacher; she will be in our Room for five weeks, learning her craft and assisting myself and the students as we learn for the last term of 2011.

I would like to thank all families for their support for the School Mission Fair, and say a BIG THANK YOU, to all of the Room 6 students. On the day of the Fair you have once again shown yourselves to be kind, considerate, giving and hard- working students. You should be very proud of yourselves. J

This is another busy one, in Week 4 we will be testing for end of year reporting, it is paramount that the students are at school during this week.

The three core areas of learning: Maths, Reading, Writing and of course Religious Education are taught every day. Health/PE The Arts(Dance and Drama) Science have specific slots of time during the week. Our key concept is CHANGE.

Education outside the classroom(EOTC) is always exciting and this term is no exception.

We have Technology ( Cooking/Wood/Sewing) a whole school visit to Tai Tapu School for their Annual Pet Day, Swim week. Preparation of the feast for the opening of the Mission Centre, and of course Kapahaka.

The Year 8s have their leavers' dinner at Dennys, and a Retreat day yet to be finalised.

I look forward to Term 4, there is much learning to be done, and lots of fun to be had.

Call in and see us in action; or contact me should you require a chat.

Regards

Judi

Masquerade- English/ICT Extension Team

Transitioning to Secondary School- Driving our own Learning.
We are writing a magazine, we have had to learn new skills in using ICTs to publish a top notch magazine for our class mates. We work independently each day honing our writing/reading skills, we meet with Mrs.P each week and we have the guidance of Ms.Grice.  Our Publication is due out Monday; the last week of school.
We will post excerpts from “Masquerade” to the blog.

Here we all are - our Editor took the shot, thanks Victoria!

Kitchen Chemistry Kicks off in Room 6!

On Friday we began our Kitchen Chemistry Unit. We were looking at "Chromatography". Miss W. explained the meaning, and then we got into our learning teams and began our hands-on experiment. We used skittles and M&Ms our experiment was called CANDY CHROMATOGRAPHY. We had some great ideas about what we thought would happen, these were recorded. We all learned to write up and record our findings, at 11 each learning team gave a short presentation, this was great because it also made links to other learning.. our speeches! Great lesson Miss W. :)

Be The Change

We are learning about Citizenship, we have decided to call our learning BE THE CHANGE.  We have first learned what it is to be a Citizen of St. Anne's School. Each week we focus on an indicator from our Student Vision, we try to be the best we can be by living out our Vision.
We have Learning Teams and each Team has written a BIG QUESTION  as the vehicle for driving their learning, from this point we have a range of ideas and thoughts of how we can BE THE CHANGE.
Our four areas of research are St.Anne's, Aotearoa/NZ,Global, and each team will learn about being a responsible and safe Digital Citizen.
Follow our blog to see our progress.
